چکیده

Consider the subband coder of figure 1, consisting of k = 0, 1, ..., M − 1 channels. Each channel has an analysis filter H k (z), a synthesis filter F k (z), down/up-sampling ratio m k , and a b k bit quantizer. The input is x[n], after passing through the analysis filters it becomes x k [n], and the subband signals are x k [n]. The subband coder is maximally decimated, M −1 k=0 m k = 1. (1) Assumption 1: Assume the input x[n] to be wide sense stationary (WSS) [1, page 806]. Assumption 2: Assume the input x[n] to be zero mean. It follows that all subsequent signals (including quantization noise) become zero mean. (This assumption does not cause any difficulty in applying subband coding to nonzero mean signals such as image, since that system is equivalent to a zero mean system obtained by subtracting the mean from the input.)

Coding Gain of Intra/Inter-frame Subband Systems

Typical image sequence coders use motion compensation techniques in connection to coding of the motion compensated difference images (interframe coding). Moreover, the difference loop iis initialized from time to time by intraframe coding of images. It is therefore important to have a procedure that allows to evaluate the performance of a particular coding scheme: coding gain and rate-distortio...

Multirate Filter Banks And Transform Coding Gain - Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on

An analytical derivation of quantization error in filter banks using additive and signal dependent noise models is presented. The coding gain over PCM is derived for both noise models. Interesting properties of coding gain in optimized filter banks with an AR(1) input signal model, asymptotic performance of multirate systems, and the analytical constraints required to achieve such performance a...

Optimal Dyadic Filter Banks for Subband Coding and Zonal Sampling

The design of optimal prototype lters for multiresolution signal decomposition is considered. Filters will be optimized with respect to the following quality criteria: a) maximum coding gain of subband coding over PCM; b) minimum approximation error for zonal sampling. Only in the special case of paraunitary systems both criteria are nearly equivalent. As an example for more general systems, th...

Optimum subband coding of cyclostationary signals

We consider the optimal orthonormal subband coding of zero mean cyclostationary signals, with N-periodic second order statistics. A 2-channel uniform filter bank, with N-periodic analysis and synthesis filters, is used as the subband coder. A dynamic scheme involving N-periodic bit allocation is employed. An average variance condition is used to measure the output distortion. The conditions for...

One- and two-level filter-bank convolvers

In a recent paper, it was shown in detail that in the case of orthonormal and biorthogonal filter banks we can convolve two signals by directly convolving the subband signals and combining the results. In this paper, we further generalize the result. We also derive the statistical coding gain for the generalized subband convolver. As an application, we derive a novel low sensitivity structure f...
